MONTH AHEAD // JULY ’23

A SMALL TASTE OF WHAT'S COMING UP THIS MONTH

EDITOR’S NOTE //

One of these months I swear I won’t be writing this post halfway through the month…but this is not that month.

We kicked off July in Hawaii on the Big Island to celebrate Dave’s birthday (a few pics from the trip, below) and let me just say that I think I’ve found one of my favorite new spots, and definitely my favorite Hawaiian island. Trust me when I say don’t sleep on Kona! A week there was barely enough time to scratch the surface of all that this incredible island has to offer and I already can’t wait to go back. I’m hardly an expert and far from having enough intel to put together a proper travel guide, but I’ll be sure to at least put together a post of all the things we did, ate, saw, etc. later this month.

Now that we’re back and planning to stay put for a bit (although you never know with us, ha!), I’m looking forward to summer activities around the city, getting back into routines but forever continuing to eat all the poke and tropical fruit I can get my hands on and incorporating all the island vibes into mainland life.

Hope you’re enjoying lots of sun and summer fun so far this month! xx

HAPPENINGS //

WHAT I’M PINNING //

Gimme all the summery tropical goodness via my HAWAII VIBES BOARD

WHAT I’M COOKING //

In case it isn’t obvious, I’m on a real tropical vibe after our trip so I’m envisioning anything and everything with tropical fruit, coconut and macadamia nuts, poke bowls and acai bowls on repeat and an attempt at recreating some incredible desserts that we had (looking at you toasted coconut stack gelato and white chocolate macadamia bars)

WHAT I’M WEARING //

Most of what I packed for Hawaii were tried and true staples I already had (like this dress and my favorite flip flops that are truly some of the most comfortable shoes I own, like I can even walk miles and up and down hills in them and they never hurt!), but I grabbed a few super affordable (as in everything was $20 or under) pieces to throw in the mix and have continued to wear them since so they’re great summer buys whether your’e going on vacay or staying home. This hat is a fun (but still minimal and neutral take) on the woven bucket hat trend, this top is great with everything from shorts to flowey skirts (I love that it really stays put unlike many tops of this style), this bangle set, this wider bangle and these earrings make for minimal but bold accessories and I am loving this scarf for everything from a top to a swim sarong.

WHAT I’M EYEING //

It’s time…to pull the trigger on the summer version of my favorite Birks clogs aka a pair of Arizonas. Also thinking of (finalllllyyyy) hopping on the Sambas trend…but like, let’s be honest, am I too late?! Also been scoping out aesthetically pleasing beach chairs (Why are the next to impossible to find?!), chocolate brown swimwear and some new dishware. I want everything, and I do mean everything, from this sale. And last, but most certainly not least, one of the reasons I’m so excited to get back into the kitchen is so that I can put these beautiful oils to good use.

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO //

If you’re thinking something tropical (How ever did you guess?!), then you would be correct. More specifically, this tropical chill playlist. It’s perfect for backyard hangs, beach days and everything in between.

WHAT I’M WATCHING //

I’m trying to spend less time watching tv and more time reading, outside, drawing, basically anything that doesn’t involve a screen. That being said, I’m not gonna lie, I’m very excited for the return of The Summer I Turned Pretty.

WHERE I’M HEADED //

Nowhere??! I hope….I know I said that last month and two weeks later we headed to Hawaii, but I really mean it this time. I want to stay put, enjoy some local beach days, check out a few new LA restaurants, take advantage of the free jazz nights at LACMA, cuddle Bomba, spend time in the kitchen, cook up new recipes, hang in the backyard, enjoy the simple things…

WORDS TO LIVE BY //
