24 Hours in Houston

24 Hours in Houston

Last week, we took a quick trip to Texas.

We had a wedding to attend in Houston, but you know I can’t visit anywhere without also taking some time {even if it is only 24 hours} to take a bite out of the local food scene {more on that below}.

To be completely honest, Houston has never been at the top of my list of places to visit, despite having friends and a few acquaintances there. But I have to say, I’m so glad we had a reason to go as we discovered so many hidden Houston gems {And by hidden, I really just mean hidden to me because I seemed to be the only one not in the know}. Dave and I even said to each other throughout the weekend that we wished we had had more time to explore because there were so many things we didn't get to eat/see/do.

While this post is far from a Houston travel guide {a 24 hour visit for a wedding hardly gives one authority on writing on guide}, we went to such great spots in the short time we were in the city that I knew I had to share them here. Keep reading to find out what they are and check out a few iPhone shots from our 24 hours in Houston.

Have you been to Houston? Any spots we can’t miss next time we visit?

things of note

MONTROSE AREA // Lots of cute shops and restaurants; great area to walk around

COMMON BOND // In between the wedding and reception, we needed something to occupy our time, so naturally, we went in search of food {Would you expect anything else from us?!} and ended up here, and wow, am I glad we did! The pastries were to-die for! They also have a full menu so you can do breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, snacks {the artichoke dip was also delish} but I would skip the coffee {and just buy more baked goods tbh}.

A 2ND CUP // A place making an impact through coffee; this shop donates a portion of their proceeds to help survivors of sex trafficking and they also sell an assortment of goods that give back {we bought a vase and I got earrings}; and, as if that isn’t enough, they also had a jazz band playing live music the afternoon that we stopped in! P.S. 10/10 recommend the raspberry mocha!

TINY BOXWOODS // A friend recommend we meet here for brunch and I’m so glad because it’s like the prettiest little slice of French heaven right in Houston. This spot gave me Restoration Hardware meets Terrain vibes, which just so happen to be two of my favorite brands, so you know I was all about this place! If you’re going for brunch, just be prepared for a bit of a wait, although between the beautiful setting and the fact that they have an outdoor bar, I don’t think you’ll really mind. Also, get the chorizo & egg pizza, fresh lemonade and please get a cookie {we OD’d on pastries from Common Bond otherwise we totally would have gotten one as it’s one of the things they’re known for}.

JAMES TURRELL TWILIGHT EPIPHANY SKYSPACE // A free space you can visit locaed on Rice’s campus; worth a peek if you’re in the area, plus the campus itself is beautiful to walk around
