My name is Alyssa. I currently reside in New York City with the love of my life (who I also force to be my photographer, food taster and shopping partner). I’m originally from Massachusetts and have lived in Indiana, Kansas and New Hampshire prior to coming to the Big Apple. I am obsessed with food, fashion, traveling, bargain hunting, DIY projects, and interior design. Anything with pink, glitter or chocolate is amazing, and I will never turn down a Chanel bag (I’m mildly obsessed), a cupcake, or bacon, sooooo if you ever feel like giving me a gift…
While I have no professional training on any of the subjects covered in my blog, they’re all things that I have had an interest in for as long as I can remember….
Fashion wise, as a young girl, my favorite “toy” was the dress-up chest brimming with dresses, heels and jewels. Needless to say, I spent a lot of my time coordinating outfits and dressing up my sister, dolls, stuffed animals and anyone else that bravely volunteered. It was also a common occurrence at family gatherings for me to attempt to “steal” my great aunt’s hats and handbags As I got older, I loved making my own jewelry or remaking my clothes in to new pieces. For me, fashion is now a form of artwork. I love hunting down deals (who doesn’t!), reworking pieces together, admiring rare finds, dressing based on the day’s mood, observing other’s takes on trends, and most importantly, interpreting it for the everyday girl.
Food wise, I’m Italian so that says a lot right there! I grew up in a family of cooks and I myself have been “cooking” before I was talking. I’ve always liked to experiment in the kitchen, and the first “meal” I made for my family consisted of a variety spices mixed together and then served on bay leaves. Luckily (for me, you and the Mr.), I’ve come a long way since then, but stay true to my Mom and Grandmother’s form . I rarely follow a recipe, I almost never measure things, and I have yet to write down my Spaghetti Sauce recipe.
My obsession with traveling I blame on my parents. When I was young, we spent a summer driving around the country, and from there I have never given up the opportunity to travel if the offer arises. With my on-the-go mindset, I hope to accomplish my goal of travelling to every country before I die.
As for my love of DIY projects, crafts and home decor I blame on my Mom… and Martha Stewart. Growing up, Martha’s show was an everyday staple and my sister and I would anxiously await it’s start. With Martha’s inspiration and my Mom’s crafty skills, we always kept busy with new projects, such as knitting, quilting, painting, drawing, sewing, or gardening. I also used to love going through magazines, cutting out pictures and creating real-life Pinterest boards. I even made folder titled “Dream Home”. Each section was a room with paint chip colors, pictures of decorations and a drawing of how the room was to be set-up. I still have the folder and one day, that may in fact be my dream home.
I hope that you enjoy all the food, fashion and fun I have to share with you!
